“Have taqwa of Allah, and have a truthful tongue.

Imam Sufyan At Thawree said :
“Have taqwa of Allah, and have a truthful tongue. Have sincerity and do deeds of various nature without there being any deception or treachery therein. Indeed Allah sees you although you cannot see Him, and He is with you wherever you may be, and nothing of your affairs is hidden to Him. Do not be deceitful to Allah lest He returns that to you, for indeed, whoever attempts to deceive Allah, He will deceive him (i.e. make his plot turn back to him), and remove his faith from him whilst his soul does not feel it… Perfect your inner reality and Allah shall perfect your outer reality. Rectify what is between you and Allah, and Allah shall rectify what lies between you and the people.”

A person can never have Taqwa until he controls his tongue

Abdullaah bin Umar said, "The limb that a person most needs to purify is his tongue." - (Abu Nu'aym in his Hilya)

Anas said, "A person can never have Taqwa until he controls his tongue." - (Ibn Sa'd)

''Words are Under Your Control Until You Speak Them,
But You Come Under Their Control Once You Have Spoken Them'' - [Ali Ibn Abi Thalib (R.A)]

''Many a spoken word is more piercing than an attack.'' - (Ali ibn Abu Talib RA)

'If you ever have time and find yourself in ease, then take advantage of prayer, to draw near to Allah; And if you intend to speak a vain word * Replace it with a tasbih, a word of glorification; Because taking advantage of silence is better than speaking frequently, even if you are eloquent in speech.' -'Abdullah ibn Mubarak.

إملاء الخير خير من السكوت والسكوت خير من إملاء الشر
Speaking what is good is better than silence, and silence is better than speaking evil

ibn Qayyim al-Jauziyyah:

"Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) was the most eloquent speaker of all of Allah's creation. His speech was sweet, comprehensive, and he had the most beautiful way with words. His words captured the hearts and souls. Even his enemies had to admit to this quality."

(Eng Translation of Zad-ul Ma'ad fi Hadyi Khairi-l 'Ibad 1/312)

The Imam(Ibn AlMubarak) Describing The Fearful

The Imam(Ibn AlMubarak) Describing The Fearful
A man asked theImam to describe the fearful. He said:

When the night is darkest, they endure it,
and it travels from them while they are still bowing.

Fear dispelled their sleep, so they stood alert while the people of security
in this world were sleeping peacefully.

While they are prostrating under the cloak the darkness,
their groan pierces their ribs.

They are mute in the day by the length of their silence.
They have tranquillity from their humility.

Physical well-being comes from eating little

I saw a pious man on the seashore wounded by a tiger.
No medicine could relieve his pain; he suffered much, but he nevertheless constantly thanked Allah, the most High,
saying, “Praise be to Allah that i have fallen into a calamity and not into sin."

[Abu Abdullah Adhami]

“Physical well-being comes from eating little , mental well-being comes from sinning little , well-being of the heart comes from worrying little , and well-being of the tongue comes from speaking little .”
- Aidh bin Abdullah al-Qarni
If someone spoke about Hasan al-Basri in a bad way, he would welcome it saying,

"Welcome to good deeds which I didn't perform, nor tired as a result of them, and in which there is no showing off or arrogance."
"If you make intense supplication and the timing of the answer is delayed, do not despair of it. His reply to you is guaranteed; but in the way He chooses, not the way you choose, and at the moment He desires, not the moment you desire."

[Ibn Ata’allah] in Hikam
“The sign of the love of Allah is the love of the Qur’an, and the sign of the love of Allah and the Qur’an is the love of the Prophet (ﷺ); and the sign of the Prophet’s love is the love of his sunnah, and the sign of the sunnah’s love is the love of the Hereafter; fudthe sign of the Hereafter’s love is detachment from the worldly life, and the sign of detachment from the worldly life is taking only sustenance needed to attain Paradise in the Hereafter.” - Sahl ibn Sa`d

Al-Fudayl b. ‘Ayyâd:

"When backbiting appears, brotherhood for Allah will disappear; and at that time you will be like things plated with gold and silver: wooden on the inside, [merely] looking good on the outside."

(Abû Nu’aym, Hilyah Al-Awliyâ`, Vol. 3 p395.)

Fear Allah in regards to yourself

Fear Allah in regards to yourself. Know that you were created alone, and that you will die alone, be resurrected alone, and taken into account alone" Ataa ibn Abi Rabah (ra)

Witness of those sins is the Judge Himself

Forgiveness is more beloved to God than vengeance

Ibn Qayyim said, “Forgiveness is more beloved to God than vengeance; mercy is more beloved to Him than punishment; acceptance is more beloved to Him than wrath; and grace is more beloved to Him than justice.”

Drive away your distress by being pleased with Allah's decree

Drive away your distress by being pleased with Allah's decree for however long the night may be, it will (surely) be followed by dawn' - Abu Darda (radiAllahu anhu)

I do not know a single man who loves fame except that he loses his religion

"I do not know a single man who loves fame except that he loses his religion and becomes disgraced. No-one who has fear of Allah, loves to be known amongst the people."

- Bishr ibn al-Harith

Indeed mountains are made up of small stones….

Abandon sins – big and small: that is Taqwa…
And be like a person walking one a land of thorns, cautious about what he sees…
Belittle not the small sins,
Indeed mountains are made up of small stones….

I advise you to adhere to the Quraan

Shu’bah and Qatadah related from Yunus bin Jubair, who said that he and his companions visited Jundub and said to him, “Give us some advice”. He replied:
“I advise you to fear Allah. I advise you to adhere to the Quraan – for it is light in the darkest of nights and it is guidance during the day. Apply it…and if a trial, such as poverty comes to you, give precedence to your religion over wealth. If that trial worsens, continue to put your religion before your wealth and your soul, for indeed the one who is destroyed is the one whose religion is destroyed; the one who is poor is the one who has lost his religion. Know that there is no poverty after Paradise and there is no richness after the Hellfire

Indeed mountains are made up of small stones….

Whoever wants his heart to be filled with fear of Allah

"Whoever wants his heart to be filled with fear of Allah, and for his tears to flow, then let him stop eating when his stomach is half full." [Hasan al-Basri]

‎"Fear your sins more than you fear the enemy as your sins are more dangerous to you than your enemy" [Umar ibn Khattab - May Allah be pleased with him]

Fear the love of status..

Ath Thawree stated: “Fear the love of status, for indeed abstaining from it is more difficult than abstaining from worldly life

Knowledge knocks on the door of action

Luqmaan adviced his son:
“O my son! The dunya is a deep ocean in which many have drowned! Let your ship be taqwallah (fear of Allah), and load your ship with imaan-bellah (believe in Allah), and let her sail be tawakkal on Allaah! Hopefully you will survive then”.
[“Kitaab Dham Ad-Dunya”, 1/91].

Malik Ibn Dinar said:
“Love of this world is the head of every mistake (i.e. the main reason behind mistakes), women are the traps of the shaytan, and wine is a caller to every sin!”
[“Kitaab Dham Ad-Dunya”, 3/416].

Wahb Bin Munbih said:
“The example of the dunya (worldly life) and hereafter is like the example of a man who has two wives. If he pleases one of them, the other one will be displeased”.
[“Kitaab Dham Ad-Dunya”, 1/119].

Sahl bin Abdullah At-Tustari said:
“There is no helper but Allah, no guide but the Messenger of Allah, no provision but taqwa and no work but to have fortitude in these things"
["Siyar A'lam An-Nubala", 13/331].

Imam Ash-Shaatibi writes:
“Sufyan At-Thawri has said: “Knowledge knocks on the door of action: it enters if the door is opened, but leaves if it does not receive a reply”.
["Al-Muwafaqaat", 1/75].

Abu Darda said: “Woe to him who does not know, and seven times woe to him who knew but did not act!” ["Ihya Uloem Ad-Deen", 1/63].

I am a traveler seeking the Truth

'I am a traveler seeking the Truth, a human searching for the meaning of humanity, and a citizen seeking dignity, freedom, stability and welfare under the shade of Islam. I am a free man who is aware of the purpose of his existence and calls, truly, my prayer and my sacrifice, my life and my death, are all for Allah, the Cherisher of the worlds; He has no partner. This I am commanded and I am among those who submit to His Will. This is who I am. Who are you?'' Hasan Al Banna

"We met a people who loved it when it was said to them "Fear Allah the most high! " Today you find people become annoyed at this."
Sufyan al-Thawri

It is better for you to transport rock with a righteous than eat sweats with the wicked... (Malik bin Dinar)

It is a duty upon every sane person to be prepared for his departure

"It is a duty upon every sane person to be prepared for his departure (from this world), for one does not know when he will be served by his Lord's commands (to take away his soul) nor does he know how long it is going to be before he will be summoned (for the Day of Judgment)."
Ibn qayyim al jawziyyah

"Your attention must be directed to your life in the present: the time between two times. If you waste it, then you have wasted the opportunity to be of the fortunate and saved ones. If you look after it, then you will achieve rest, delight, and ever-lasting bliss."

Ibn Qayyim Al Jawziyyah

"How is it possible for one's heart to be certain that one is going to meet Allah, that Allah sees and hears all that he does, and knows his secret open affairs, and that he will be made to stand before Allah, answerable for all his deeds. how can one be certain and aware of all of this, and yet persist upon things which displease Allah; persist upon abandoning Allah's orders, neglecting His rights, and yet claim that he has good expectation of Allah?

Ibn Qayyim Al Jawziyyah

"Man's fear of Allah is equal to his knowledge of Him, and his renunciation of the life of this world is equal to his desire of the Hereafter. Whoever acts according to what he knows, Allah will make him successful in what he doesn't know. And whoever is ill-tempered disgraces his honour, religion and generosity."

Al-Fudayl ibn 'Iyaad

"When my heart was hardened, and my courses constrained; I made my hope a stairway to Your forgiveness. My sins burdened me heavily, but when I measured it by Your forgiveness, Lord, Your forgiveness was the greater."

Imam Ash-Shaafi'ee

"Taqwa will remain in the hearts of people of taqwa as long as they leave off much of the permissible for fear that they may lead to haram."

Al-Hasan Al-Basree

"We don’t know anything that is stronger for the believer than night prayer and sadaqa and indeed a person will commit one sin and we will not be able to get up at night."
Al-Hasan Al-Basree

No poverty after Paradise and no wealth in the Fire

No poverty after Paradise and no wealth in the Fire

It is reported that Jundub b. ‘Abdillâh Al-Bajalî – Allah be pleased with him – was once asked for advice and instruction. He said:

I advise you to fear Allâh and obey Him (taqwâ) and I advise you to adhere to the Quran, for it is a light in the datk night and a guidance during the day, so implement it no matter how much struggle and poverty you have to face. If a calamity befalls you, put your wealth forward to protect your religion, and if the calamity continues, put forward your wealth and your life to save your religion [but never risk your religion], for the ruined is he whose religion is ruined, and the looted is he whose religion is taken. And know that there is no poverty after Paradise, and no riches after the Fire.

Al-Dhahabî, Siyar A’lâm Al-Nubalâ` 3:174.
