"Do not spend your time finding fault with one another."

Ibn 'Abbas said on the following verse of the Qur'an, "Nor defame one another" (49:11), "Do not spend your time finding fault with one another."

Ali (ra) said : How can you hate your brother for his evil, while you love yourself knowing the evil you do

Ad-Dhahabi writes in the biography of Sufyan At-Thawri:
“A man said to him: “Advice me”. He said: “Work for this life for as long as you need to reside here. Work for the Hereafter for as long as you need to dwell there”
["Manaqib Sufyan Al-Thawri", 50].

Sufyan al-Thawri said, “Every act of disobedience committed due to passion, its forgiveness is hoped for. Every act of disobedience committed due to arrogance, its forgiveness is not hoped for because the root of Satan’s disobedience was arrogance, whereas the root of Adam’s lapse was passion.”

Ibn Katheer writes:

“Al-Ashja’ee narrated that Ibn Mas’ood said: “Verily, Mu’adh was an Ummah (nation), qanit (obedient) and a hanif (monotheist)”. I thought to myself: Abu Abdul-Rahman (Ibn Mas’ood) must have made a mistake, because Allah said: “Verily, Ibrahim was an Ummah, (qanit and a hanif)!” [An-Nahl; 120]. Then he said: “Do you know what Ummah (nation) and what Qanit (obedient) refer to?” I said: “Allahu A’lam!” He said: “The ummah is the person who teaches others (goodness) and the qanit is the one who obeys Allah and His Messengers, and so was Mu’adh : a teacher of goodness and obedient to Allah and His messenger”.

["Tafsir Ibn Katheer", 4/612].
