“Look to See Where your dirham (money) came from”
Imam Sufyaan recognized the fact that different people are put to trial in different ways. One of the most difficult of matters regarding which people are put to trial is wealth. In order to survive and enjoy a comfortable lifestyle, some people forget their religion and its teachings, and are willing to earn money through unlawful means. Such people either fear poverty of become to greedy; it might be easy for them to pray and fast but it is very difficult for them to earn a lawfully derived income. For this reason, Sufyaan gave this advice to others: “Look to see where your dirham (money) came from”.
Referring to people who earn through dubious means.
