'The most barren house is the one in which the Quran is not recited'

'The most barren house is the one in which the Quran is not recited' - Ibn Masud

Abdullah bin Mas’ud said: "One who reads the Quran is contemplative and despondent; he is wise, forbearing, knowledgeable and mostly quiet. Such one is neither coarse nor slumberous and he is not boisterous, vociferous, or argumentative.”
[Hilyat al Awliyaa pg 110 #245]

Qatada said, "This Qur'an guides you to the recognition of your illnesses and to their remedies. Your illnesses are your sins and your medicine is seeking Allah's forgiveness."

‘AbduLlah bin al-‘Abbas رضي الله عنهما once said, “Whoever wants to know if Allah سبحانه و تعالى loves him or not then let him see if he loves to recite the Word of Allah then Allah سبحانه و تعالى loves him but if he neglects then he should know that he is far away from the Love of Allah سبحانه و تعالى.”

Lesson to be learnt from this athar:

Loving to recite the Book of Allah سبحانه و تعالى means you Allah سبحانه و تعالى loves you and the opposite is true. We should spend the most of our time reciting the Qur`an specially in the month of Ramadhaan and then keep up with the practise. We should not only recite the Qur`an but also put it into practise by learning its Tafseer, contemplating upon it and asking Allah سبحانه و تعالى to make us understand the ayaat. Like Ibn Taymiyyah رحمه الله who used to read and study different tafaseer and even if he couldn’t understand the meaning and the interpretation of ayaat then he would go out to the open desert and do sajdah in the dirt and make the du‘a, “O’ the Teacher of Ibrahim عليه سلام, O’ the Teacher of Musa عليه سلام teach me the Qur`an!”

Narrated from 'Umar ibn al-Khattaab that the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) said:

"Indeed, Allaah raises nations by this Book and lowers others by it."

[Sahih Muslim and others]

Narrated from Abi Umaamah (radhiallaahu `anhu): 'I heard the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) say:

"Read the Qur'aan, for indeed it will come on the Day of Judgement as an intercessor for its companion."

[Sahih Muslim]

Narrated from Nawwaas ibn Sam`aan (radhiallaahu `anhu): 'I heard the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) say,

"The Qur'aan will be brought on the Day of Judgement as well as its people who used to act upon it in the world. Sooratul-Baqarah and Aal 'Imran will be preceding it, arguing on behalf of their companion."

[Sahih Muslim]

Narrated from ‘Aaishah (radhiAllaahu ‘anhaa): The Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) said:

“The one who is proficient in the recitation of the Qur’aan will be with the honourable and obedient scribes (angels) and he who recites the Qur’aan and finds it difficult to recite, doing his best to recite it in the best way possible, will have a double reward.”

[Sahih al-Bukhari and Muslim]

It is narrated from 'Isma ibn Malik (radhiallahu `anhu) that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam) said:

'If the Qur'an is gathered into a single vessel (i.e. the heart), Allah will never burn it in the Fire.'

[Reported by al-Bayhaqi, declared Hasan by al-Albani]
